The Amazing Race: Marcy and Ron Eliminated from the Race

The oldest pair on the latest edition of The Amazing Race did not make it past Ho Chi Minh City. Marcy Maloy and Ron Shalita had a lot of spunk. They were the only pair to pick a Detour that involved figuring out a Vietnamese word. It took way too long for the pair to ask for help. Sort of helping to seal their doom.

I was not surprised to read that Ron is 59. I was surprised to read that Marcy is a year older than Ron. I liked this pair.

And then you have the bickering pair of Lance Layne and Keri Morrione. They were so clueless about the clues. That was amusing. This is not one of the brighter pairs to have run the race. And he's a lawyer? If this is what a couple acts like on a TV show with cameras on them, what is it like in private? I'm not a fan of temper tantrums.

Saigon, aka Ho Chi Minh City, appears to be doing quite well. So many people on so many motorbikes.

The young gay brother pair, Sam and Dan McMillen, also have couple issues. The younger brother, Dan, gets frustrated way too easy.

Meghan Rickey and Cheyne Whitney are doing real well, so they've had no great reason to bicker. But, they seem like the types who have an evolved relationship, despite being one of the young teams. It'll probably take a lot of stress to get this pair at each other's throat.

A bit of friction sparks up between Mika Combs and Canaan Smith at times. He is 26, four years older than Mika. Some of the friction may have its roots in tensions caused by purity pledges.

I really like the poker playing girls, Maria Ho and Tiffany Michelle. They may be my favorites. Either them or this week's 1st place team, the Harlem Globetrotting pair of Herbert Lang and Nathaniel Lofton.

This week we learned, several times, that Nathaniel lost his dad right before the race started. We also learned that Marcy's dad was shot down during the Vietnam War.

The Pitstop for the Ho Chi Minh City leg was Reunification Palace. We were shown footage of a North Vietnam tank crashing though the palace's gates, sort of signifying to the world that that war was over. Our side lost. The Vietnamese people appear to be a happy people. America probably should not have gotten tangled up in that one. But, somehow it made sense at the time.

I suppose by 2025 The Amazing Race will have a leg or two in Iraq. Or, who knows, by then Iran might be back being America's friend, like Vietnam is. We live in a strange world.
