Of all the places in all the world the place I enjoy the least and which never causes me to think I want to be a tourist there is whenever The Amazing Race has gone to India.
Now for 2 weeks we have been stuck in Delhi, India. At least previous times when The Amazing Race went to India we got to go on long train rides from hell and see some of the country side.
And then there were last night's Detours, Roadblocks and Speed Bumps. It started off very weird with their first clue directing them to a Roadblock at a park at something called the Deshbandu Apartments. One member of each team had to find their way through this bizarre traditional annual India celebration called the Holi Festival. Basically hundreds of Indians were throwing multi-colored powdered dye and water at each other. And at the Amazing Racers.
All the teams, but one, had a fairly easy time of getting the clue. But the pair of clueless divorcees, Kelly & Christy, had all sorts of problems. They didn't understand what to do, so Kelly would go into the mess, find one of the ladders where the clues were hanging, grab one and then make her way back to Christy to open it. Inside the envelope it would say "Try Again." She did this over and over again til she was totally covered with color. It was sort of funny to watch. But not all that funny.
The detour was equally lame. To get that clue they first had to go to something called the Charity Birds Hospital and search for the clue that would point them to the detour of Bleary Eyed or Teary Eyed. The Bleary choice had the teams following a power line and counting numbers on the line. Only one team chose Teary Eyed, that being Terrence and Sarah. It was amusing seeing Terrence get so miserable from crushing 40 pounds of chilies after he'd been such an annoyance the week before while Sarah painted a taxi-cab.
Kelly & Christy had all sorts of clueless woes counting the numbers on the power line. Nick and Star, the leaders had no problem, nor did Toni and Dallas. They worked together with Nick and Starr who beat them to the Pit Stop for their 3rd win in a row. Incidentally, Starr is a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader.
While Nick and Starr were coming in 1st we saw the Frat Boys and the Divorcees struggle with counting. In the meantime we saw last week's last place non-elimination rounders, Ken and Tina do their Speed Bump task of going to a Sikh Temple and doing some community service in the form of giving water away til no one was thirsty. It was boring. They got their clue for the Detour and chose Bleary Eyed.
Ken and Tina got to the power line and quickly figured it out and quickly completed the task. On their way to the Pit Stop Tina told the Frat Boys how to find the numbers. Eventually the Divorcees, Kelly and Christy figured out how to count, but not soon enough to avoid getting eliminated. Glad to seem them go. They were annoying.
I hope they get out of India next week. I didn't stay around for the previews, so I've no clue where The Amazing Race is heading, if anywhere.
