I think the current slang term that describes the guy on the left, he being Wes from the current version of ABC's The Bachelorette, is douchebag. I don't know if a woman can be a douchebag or not. If one can, I'm starting to think this Canadian Jillian woman may qualify.
Part of the entertainment factor for me with a show like The Bachelorette is the absurdity factor. Hunting for a husband on a TV show and calling it a "process" as if it's been designed by some sort of mating expert.
Last night's visits to the hometowns of the remaining boys was sort of entertaining. Kiptyn's parents putting Jillian through a weird wine/food test was strange. If that's how they act when trying to make a good impression, what must they be like at other times?
Wes, the guy with the girl friend, who this episode we learned is named Laurel, well, his mom and sisters were certainly different. I think the mom was actually an old cougar girlfriend and the sisters were ex-girl friends. Or maybe one of them was Laurel. They are all in on the Wes plan to use The Bachelorette to launch his superstar music career.
And then there was Michael. We learned he has an identical twin. I've always found something creepy about identical twins. This was no exception.
Reid's family left no lasting memory. Jesse the winemaker's family seemed okay. Were they the ones who roped off the hot tub with crime scene tape?
And then we had the return of the scrappy little airplane pilot, Jake. He knocks on Jillian's door to her great surprise. Yet the TV crew was there ready to film. How surprised could she have been? Jake rather awkwardly told Jillian that Wes has a girlfriend. I think he may have used the "he's here for the wrong reasons" verbiage again. It appeared that it had registered with, what increasingly seems a simple-minded Jillian, that some were of the opinion that Wes was on the show to help his singing. Jillian did not seem to mind this. Why? Well, he could do that and still "be here for the right reasons."
Jake left after delivering his blow. Then Wes showed up. Jillian mildly confronted him. Wes talked a good line. He is a smooth talking douchebag. Then Jillian called Jake and asked him to return. The whole thing started to seem increasingly scripted. Jake showed up, confronted Wes, with Wes accusing Jake of making up stuff because he got the boot, I mean, didn't get a rose.
In the end, Jillian chose to believe Wes.
Oh, I forgot. The return of Ed. He left a few days prior, due to his boss demanding he get back to work. Jillain was quite upset when Ed left. She thought Ed was "there for the right reasons." Apparently Ed decided the pursuit of Jillian was more important than his job.
So, Ed got one of the coveted roses, while Michael and Jesse did not. Michael was quite upset. He seems younger than 25.
I don't know if next week is the episode were Jillian takes each of the remaining boys back to her Fantasy Suite to test how well they perform their potential husbandly duties, or not. We did not see the preview, this week, of Reid seeming to have some functionality issues in the Fantasy Suite, with Jillian stricken because she was really looking forward to giving Reid a tryout.
