I believe this season THE AMAZING RACE got its best ratings ever. Early on in its life THE AMAZING RACE was always in danger of getting canceled. And then it'd win the Emmy for Best Reality Show, over and over again.
For me the last few seasons of THE AMAZING RACE have not been nearly as amazing as the earlier seasons. Maybe the novelty wore off. Early on the tasks and the routes to the tasks seemed more complicated, more interesting, more exotic.
This season had so many lame Detours and Roadblocks. Like throwing cakes at each other til a clue revealed itself. Or last night's hauling a pig down a Maui beach and preparing it for a luau.
The final Roadblock was not entertaining to watch. Searching among 300 surfboards to find 11 with pictures on them representing the prior 11 legs of the race was just painful to watch as Luke blew his huge lead after he and Margie aced the pig hauling task and the jet ski search for the clue that directed them to the surfboards.
When Victor joined Luke searching for surfboards he quickly caught up. And then found the final surfboard and the clue directing them to the finish line. So, there was no great drama as to who was going to win the final taxi ride to the finish line.
When Jaime & Cara showed up at the surfboards they too quickly caught up with Luke, then with both Jaime and Luke stymied, Margie suggested they help each other. Which they did. Who would come in 2nd was the only drama left. It ended with Luke & Margie coming in 3rd.
At the end Luke signed, “The first deaf person on THE AMAZING RACE, I’m very proud of that. No matter what, deaf people can do anything.”
Well, I thought to myself, do anything but hear and talk. I started off like Luke, by the end, not so much. I started off not much liking the Victor part of the Victor & Tammy team. By the end they'd grown on me and I was happy to see them win. Actually I would have been happy to see any of the teams win.
